Data coverage

An inventory of NASA's airborne and field campaigns for Earth Science SASSIEL2ALTOALAMOFLOATSV1 The Salinity and Stratification at the Sea Ice Edge (SASSIE) project is a NASA experiment that aims to understand how salinity anomalies in the upper ocean generated by melting sea ice affect sea surface temperature (SST), stratification, and subsequent sea-ice growth. SASSIE involved a field campaign that sampled the transition from summer melt to autumn ice advance in the Beaufort Sea during August-October 2022, making intensive in situ and remote sensing observations within ~200 km of the sea ice edge. This dataset contains temperature and salinity measurements collected by ALTO and Air Launched Autonomous Micro Observer (ALAMO) profiling floats deployed in the Beaufort Sea. ALTO floats had ice-avoidance firmware, meaning that they stopped surfacing and transmitting data once surface temperatures dropped to near-freezing values (indicating the presence of sea ice). They will hopefully reappear in summer 2023 to report data from the previous ice-covered season. ALAMO floats did not have ice-avoidance, in order to ensure that they reported data as long as possible during ice freeze-up. As a result, they will likely not survive over the winter. Future versions if this dataset may include data collected after Fall 2022. Data are available in netCDF format. SASSIE involved a field campaign that sampled the transition from summer melt to autumn ice advance in the Beaufort Sea during August-October 2022, making intensive in situ and remote sensing observations within ~200km of the sea ice edge. The Surface Wave Instrument Float with Tracking (SWIFT) drifter is a passive Lagrangian wave-following sensor platform. During the SASSIE deployment, five SWIFT drifters were deployed in September 2022, collecting measurements of salinity, sea surface temperature, waves, and meteorological data. SWIFT drifter buoys contain GPS, a pulse-coherent Doppler velocity profiler, an autonomous meteorological station, and a digital video recorder. Level 1 data are available as compressed files containing graphics of the measurements alongside MATLAB and NetCDF files. SASSIEL2SHIPBOARDADCPV1 This dataset contains measurements of shipboard ocean current speed vertical shear from an acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) during the Salinity and Stratification at the Sea Ice Edge (SASSIE) field campaign. SASSIEL3SHIPBOARDSBANDV1 This dataset contains images from the S-BAND marine navigation radar collected during the 2022 Salinity and Stratification at the Sea Ice Edge (SASSIE) campaign. SASSIE is a NASA experiment that aims to understand how salinity anomalies in the upper ocean generated by melting sea ice affect sea surface temperature (SST), stratification, and subsequent sea-ice growth. SASSIE involved a field campaign that sampled the transition from summer melt to autumn ice advance in the Beaufort Sea during August-October 2022, making intensive in situ and remote sensing observations within ~200km of the sea ice edge. Images from the radar were digitized and saved every 10-60 seconds on days that the R/V Wolstad was in or around ice. Images were then georeferenced based on range, heading, image orientation, and ship's GPS position. L3 images are available in GeoTIFF format. SASSIEL2SBANDMLV1 This dataset contains ice concentration rankings of S-band images from the S-BAND marine navigation radar collected during the 2022 Salinity and Stratification at the Sea Ice Edge (SASSIE) campaign. Ice concentration rankings ranging from 0 to 3 determined by VGG19 Machine Learning Model. L2 summary data are available in NetCDF format. SASSIEECCOL4ATMSTATELLC1080GRIDDAILYV1R1 This dataset provides model-simulated, daily-averaged atmosphere surface temperature, humidity, and winds from the SASSIE ECCO Version 1 Release 1 (V1R1) ocean and sea-ice state estimate. ECCO (Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean) is a 4D ocean circulation model combining observations with a general circulation model (GCM) to estimate the complete time-evolving state of the global ocean. In this project, it was run over the Arctic polar region in support of the Salinity and Stratification at the Sea Ice Edge (SASSIE) field experiment - a NASA experiment focused on salinity anomalies in the upper ocean generated by melting sea ice. The SASSIE ECCO simulation was produced by downscaling the global ECCO state estimate from 1/3 to 1/12 degree grid cells, where the global solution provided initial and boundary conditions and atmospheric forcing. The output fields for this dataset cover the period 2014-01-15T12:00:00 to 2021-02-07T12:00:00 and are consolidated onto a single curvilinear grid face focusing on the Arctic domain, using the 5 faces of the lat-lon-cap 1080 (llc1080) native grid from the original simulation. Daily files are available in netCDF-4. This dataset is one of 22 produced by SASSIE ECCO - the full list can be found in the user guide. SASSIEECCOL4GEOMETRYLLC1080GRIDV1R1 This dataset provides geometric parameters for the SASSIE ECCO Version 1 Release 1 (V1R1) ocean and sea-ice state estimate. Parameters include areas and lengths of grid cell sides; horizontal and vertical coordinates of grid cell centers and corners; grid rotation angles; and global domain geometry including bathymetry and land/ocean masks. (EXPERIMENTAL) NOAA FourCastNet Global Forecast System (FourCastNetGFS) (EXPERIMENTAL)

The FourCastNet Global Forecast System (FourCastNetGFS) is an experimental system set up by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) to produce medium range global forecasts. The model runs on a 0.25 degree latitude-longitude grid (about 28 km) and 13 pressure levels. The model produces forecasts 4 times a day at 00Z, 06Z, 12Z and 18Z cycles. Major atmospheric and surface fields including temperature, wind components, geopotential height, relative humidity and 2 meter temperature and 10 meter winds are available. The products are 6 hourly forecasts up to 10 days. The data format is GRIB2. The FourCastNetGFS...

10m Annual Land Use Land Cover (9-class)

This dataset, produced by Impact Observatory, Microsoft, and Esri, displays a global map of land use and land cover (LULC) derived from ESA Sentinel-2 imagery at 10 meter resolution for the years 2017 - 2024. Each map is a composite of LULC predictions for 9 classes throughout the year in order to generate a representative snapshot of each year. This dataset was generated by Impact Observatory, which used billions of human-labeled pixels (curated by the National Geographic Society) to train a deep learning model for land classification. Each global map was produced by applying this model to the Sentinel-2 annual scene...
