The research question
How do patients and caregivers describe changes in function through the day?
Proposed design
Trained diary use with a limited daily schedule, supported by periodic patient-reported assessments and optional observer validation.
Illustrative design: 2- to 4-week intensive diary; setup and recruitment are scoped separately.
Data to collect
- Reported motor-state periods
- Medication timing and wearing-off experience
- Sleep and fatigue
- Daily-task difficulty and caregiver observations
Planned outputs
- Within-day experience profiles
- Diary feasibility and reporting agreement
- Treatment-burden and support-needs summaries
What we confirm with you
We agree the population, sample size, country, collection tools, analysis plan and budget. Collection starts after the required consent, ethics or other permissions and a signed scope are in place.
- Verify diagnosis and diary training requirements
- Keep patient and caregiver reports distinguishable
- Clinical motor assessments and biomarkers require separate validation
Clinical records, laboratory results, photographs and device integrations are included only when access, collection quality and permitted use have been verified. Self-reported findings are identified as such.

- Parkinson home diary versus observer study
The study compares patient diary motor-state ratings with independent observer ratings, showing the need for reporting validation.
